Legend for hiking map.
Date of current rendering: 2009-04-26 morning
Update 2009-04-26: (Data from 2009-04-26 morning) Peak and sport POI labels are rendered somewhat darker for better readability. Unimarkt and Lagerhaus are now rendered (just text, no icons), and the detail map is now a little higher, to fit better into the final layout.
Update 2009-04-24: (Data from 2009-04-24 morning) First rendering after OSM Api update, seemingly without problems. In the meantime several small corrections (road names, routes, place name Riedlhammer, Hainberg) have been introduced.
Update 2009-04-12: (Data from 2009-04-12 morning) The overview and detail maps got a scale bar.
Update 2009-04-02: (Data from 2009-04-01 morning) Several font sizes and line styles have been adapted for better readability. The contour lines are now computed differently and appear much smoother.
Update 2009-03-29: (Data from 2009-03-29 morning) The maps are now more or less complete, except for maybe one or the other POI and possibly color and font size adaptations. The details map now has street names and better contour line rendering, and all maps have improved hiking route icon placement.
Update 2009-03-28: (Data from 2009-03-28 morning) The hiking map now shows almost no POIs any more inside the region of the detailed map, because there are too many too close together. Instead the detailed map of the center of Gutau is being worked on and has made some progress wrt. text, road and icon sizes and line widths.
Update 2009-03-24: (Data from 2009-03-24 morning) There was some silence here during the last two weeks, because of holiday and work on layouting a draft map and text. Now the icons are almost completely reworked, and you can find some more elevation information in spots which are not hill tops.
Update 2009-03-07: (Data from 2009-03-07 morning) First steps for generation of the enlarged map for central Gutau. The limits of this detail map are shown as red outline in the hiking map. (So far, the styles have not been adapted to the new zoom level.)
Update 2009-03-01: (Data from 2009-03-01 morning) Some new icons are added: climbing, bus stops, touristic attractions, castle/ruins, notable trees. Additionally, the color of waterways and sports icons changed slightly.
Update 2009-02-27: (Data from 2009-02-27 morning) Beside the Eisvogel icon for the Vogelkundeweg, some sports icons are added, namely for archery, equestrian, and swimming.
Update 2009-02-22: (Data from 2009-02-20 morning) This weekend saw the emergence of a first version for a usable legend, see below the map itself ...
Update 2009-02-20: (Data from 2009-02-20 morning) The "Burgen- und Schlösserweg" is now rendered complete with its icon, and the color is adapted to the one of the icon as well.
Update 2009-02-15: (Data from 2009-02-15 morning) Names of several type of landuse/amenity/leisure areas (e.g. forests, meadows, commercial zones, ...) are rendered, if the areas are large enough (currently 20,000 square meters) and no other text is too close. So far, there is no area around Gutau where this is the case, but the possibility is there ...
Update 2009-02-14: (Data from 2009-02-14 morning) Added further "consistent" icons: tourism=hotel/guest_house. Background color changed again (lighter, somewhat more gray). Names for several icons (e.g. restaurants) is rendered. Several new landuse types are included in the rendering, although mostly not yet present around Gutau (landuse=landfill/quarry/farm/farmyard/military/meadow).
Update 2009-02-12: (Data from 2009-02-12 morning) First steps into the direction of a better, easier and more consistent icon use, by conversion in arbitrary sizes from a comprehensive SVG icon collection. Viewpoints, restaurants are changed, and museums are added. Colors will be used to group icons into categories (brownish icons: touristic, blue icons: amenities, ...).
Update 2009-02-08: (Data from 2009-02-07 morning) Several small color changes (background, service roads, tracks, paths, forests, water/-ways, contour lines). Elevation of contour lines is now printed as well. Size of building names is slightly enlarged.
Update 2009-02-06: (Data from 2009-02-06 morning) Some small improvements concerning text rendering of rivers/streams, and regarding interpreting place_of_worship (church, chapel, wayside_cross/wayside_shrine).
Update 2009-01-26: (Data from 2009-01-26 morning) The width-tag for waterways is now used (if present) to influence the width of the rendering of rivers, streams, and canals.
Update 2009-01-21: (Data from 2009-01-21 morning) Churches (nodes or polygons with amenity=place_of_worship and optionally a building=church), chapels (nodes or polygons with amenity=place_of_worship and a compulsory building=chapel), and historic=wayside_shrine/wayside_cross are now rendered as differently-sized crosses or balls with crosses on top.
Update 2009-01-20: (Data from 2009-01-20 morning) Footways are now colored blue and dashed (to discern them from black buildings), highway=gate is rendered, and restaurant icons got a light buffer around them. The background coloring of the shading is changed (does not affect appearance in Gutau, but in other areas, where the coastline polygons used so far overlap and produce ugly horizontal or vertical stripes), now the transparently colored polygon is generated in the database from the bounding box of the data. landuse=village_green and barrier=wall are now rendered as well, but not present so far around Gutau.
Update 2009-01-15: (Data from 2009-01-14 morning) Parking areas and icons are now incorporated, as are restaurants (so far without their names) and viewpoints.
Update 2009-01-14: (Data from 2009-01-14 morning) New elements on the map are names of buildings (mainly farms), and the references (abbreviations) of hiking routes.
Update 2009-01-12: (Data from 2009-01-12 morning) Peaks (natural=peak) are now shown, together with their name and elevation (ele tag), if present.
Update 2009-01-02: (Data from 2009-01-02 morning) This time the changes are mainly concerning the route rendering: where more than one route uses the same way, the colors are interleaving (dashed). Furthermore, the names of streams are rendered now.
Update 2008-12-31: (Data from 2008-12-31 morning) Besides the update of the OSM data, the following is new/changed: the map now contains contour lines (not the overview, which would otherwise be too cluttered), and the first elements are labeled (currently only places, i.e. tag place=city/town/village/hamlet/locality).
Update 2008-12-23: (Data from 2008-12-21 morning) Area should be close to the final map. Please tell me about better image limits ... This is also the first version with a completely self-developed style. There is still a lot missing, most notably all labels/text and refs/shields, but at least the walking routes are already there, each colored separately (although, where they overlap only one is shown).
